Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Diane Apperson is the fabulous artist behind the eclectic dolls of Tallowberry Primitives. She lives in Virginia in a rural area surrounded by lots of history. Monticello, Appomatox, Colonial Williamsburg and many other historical points of interest are all within a few hours of her home.
Diane is the fourth of five kids, four brothers and no sisters, and so she and her mother were best friends. Her mother was in fact her partner in this venture until she passed away in 2003. Although she has no children of her own and isn't married, Diane loves spending time with her nieces and nephews and considers herself lucky to have a large family that makes for a boisterous crowd on holidays!

Diane started making her designs 20 to 25 years ago and really loves what she does. She never had any formal training, but through trying lots of things settled into the one that made her happiest...making primitive folk art. She loves to sew and paint, so by combining both she creates beautiful dolls from very basic doll bodies and fabrics. With a touch of her artists' pencils she magically brings each doll to life. The face is what makes a doll special and she tends to spend a lot of time getting it just the way she wants it by the process of needle sculpting and drawing the features and adding shading and highlights.

| You can find Diane's designs on Ebay, Simply Primitives and TDIPT Mercantile. She says that belonging to these wonderful groups has helped her tremendously in getting her name out to the public and has also introduced her to many other wonderful doll artists and painters. She also sells her dolls to a couple of shops in Virginia, which allows her to meet more primitive loving friends. One of her goals for the coming year is to make it into Early American Life Magazine's Holiday Directory of Artisans. It's her favorite magazine and it would be a thrill she says to see her name in the annual issue. Keep your fingers crossed for her! | Now Enter into a Magical Place - One of My favorite places to visit... The Secret Garden! |
Debbie Goodwin
Bart & Debbie Goodwin of Waynesville, Ohio purchased 12 acres located on St. Rt. 73 nearly 10 years ago. The property, when purchased, was a 20+ year rental property and in grave need of repair. After countless hours of refurbishing and a lot of TLC, they made it habitable and what it has become today... The Secret Garden!
Debbie had been in the Corporate world for more than 30 years working as an Executive Assistant, and further into her 19 year career moved into marketing. After being downsized, she took a position as an Event Planner . She worked on the National Events Team as event planner for all of the National Dog and Cat shows that you view on Animal Planet! Although there's nothing better than working with animals, constant traveling took a toll. After many evenings in the Party Barn, brainstorming over a glass or two of wine, and wondering what could be done with 12 acres, Bart and Debbie determined that with the exposure they would receive from being on St. Rt. 73 and the close proximity to Caesar's Creek, the Renaissance Festival, and the antique shops of Waynesville, they could launch a home-based business. They turned four acres into what is known today as The Secret Garden and it's currently in it's sixth season.
Nature inspired, the Garden offers uniquely crafted lawn and garden items of all types. You can stroll through brick lined pathways through the woods and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while shopping. The Chapel in the Woods is four years old and is the perfect place for small events. It is located in a wooded setting overlooking a reflecting pond and has been used for many celebrations such as baby and bridal showers, corporate off-site events, family gatherings and weddings.

The Bird House evolved this past year over the winter of 2008 and incorporates everything for the serious bird enthusiast - seed, suet, feeders, houses and so much more! Bella Garden Florals has joined The Secret Garden and designer Debbie Agnew creates custom arrangements and wreaths or bouquets for home or weddings. Watch next season for a huge expansion of Bella Garden at The Secret Garden! Would Debbie ever go back to the Corporate world? Not in a million years! Even though she works harder now than she ever has, she is doing what she is meant to do with the help of family and friends. Visit The Secret Garden at 4107 East State Route 73 Waynesville, Ohio 45068 513-897-5505 Open 7 days a week 11am-6pm (Winter hours January through March) Email: goodwin@secretgardenwaynesville.com www.secretgardenwaynesville.com
